This prop from the movie Titanic is the jacket from the costume for the First Officer, William Murdoch. The costume is actually an estate sale find for me. When we first uncovered it we thought it couldn't possibly be. Authentic due to the fact that it was not accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, and what were the odds, that this was for real, right? After careful research we have determined that it is authentic and should be in the collection of someone who is a true Titanic Movie afficianado. The label inside the jacket read "Angels & Berman The Constumiers to the Entertainment Industry". Another label reads "Made in England". Our inquiries have determined that Angels and Berman, headquartered in England was in fact the costumer for James Cameron's Titanic in 1997. There is also a "20th Century Fox" hang tag on the jacket sleeve. The tag is identical to others we saw while researching authentic props available from the movie.
As additional evidence, I can offer the information that the sale where this was uncovered was part of the liquidation of a massive storage lot that belonged to a very wealthy family. This item had been in storage for over a decade.
As for the lack of C. Evidently the owners simply, and most unfortunately, neglected to keep this document with the garment. We determined which character in the film wore this costume by watching the movie.
The only cast member that appears on screen wearing a jacket with two bands of gold braid at the cuff is Ewan Stewart who plays the role of First Officer Murdoch. I attempted to include a screen shot from "Titanic" that shows this costume in use on the screen. These photos were difficult to capture because in the sinking scenes, where Murdoch plays a feature role, he wore an overcoat. The few scenes where you can see the jacket in use on the screen are early in the film, and the identifying cuffs are visible only very briefly. The jacket is a size 42. It is double breasted in style sporting a double row of White Star Line brass buttons.
It is fashioned of navy blue wool lined in black cotton. The jacket is very well made and is in perfect condition.I understand you may have questions about this item. Feel free to send me your inquiries. What a golden and rare opportunity is presented here.....
